INTRODUCTION
On account of various factors associated with the current systems of schooling, reading for pleasure or for profit has much been victimised.
A perpetual state of anxiety at school and home and excess scheduling of a student's available time, has left the child with lack of ease or lack of leisure to turn to books.
Hence, reading merely for pleasure, as an integrated component of the regular school activity, can legitimize a child's passion for books.
The project has been designed to progress through the following steps and beyond.
STEP 1: TEAMING
STEP 2: ASSIGNATION
STEP 3: ACTIVITY
STEP 4; OUTPUT
STEP 5: EVALUATION
STEP 1: TEAMING
Being a small time project meant for the secondary classes, only three teams are needed to take this project.forward.
Tailor-made tasks are assigned as individual and collective tasks.
TEAM A
Composed of 16 students, sub-teams comprising two students each, will pick two books from the World of English Literature and prepare an advocacy statement for the books they wish to recommend for the rest of the class.
Eight books out of sixteen will be shortlisted, as books to be read by all as part of this project.
The value-points can tentatively be;
1. that which invokes aesthetic pleasure
2. that which can stimulate a love for books
3. simplicity of theme, style and expression
4. reading of which results in a positive turn in habit/behavior
TEAM -A- WILL WORK ON THIS PROJECT FOR FIVE DAYS
TEAM B
Consisting of 16 students, the members of the team will collect interesting/amusing facts/information/discoveries about an author/book picked for the class as part of the project in groups of two.
The information should invariably be relevant to students of the secondary classes.
They will promote the book they have taken up by using different platforms like presentations, notice board displays, seminars etc.
OUT OF THE EIGHT BOOKS, FIVE BOOKS WILL BE IDENTIFIED AS BOOKS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED TO BE READ BY THE ENTIRE CLASS AS PART OF THIS PROJECT
TEAM -B- WILL WORK ON THIS PROJECT FOR FIVE DAYS
------------------------------------FIVE DAYS OF INTENSIVE READING---------------------------
TEAM C

2. Curiosity and sense of wonder generated
3. Which of the books/authors a reader liked & why?
4. Any special comment/impression
5. Quantum of students who have continued/wish to continue with the reading

-----------------THIS PHASE WILL STRETCH OVER A PERIOD OF FIVE DAYS------------
PHASE 4 - EVALUATION
Rather than a summative evaluation, this evaluation starts from the day the project is set in motion and ends the day it is officially closed. But the blogging will continue...............
